    300tdi expansion tank

    Hi all,

Long time lurker, always appreciated AULRO for info. Changed the timing belt on my 300tdi 2 weeks ago and now the original plastic coolant expansion tank is leaking from the join. Anybody have any luck with the aluminum tanks off ebay (Usually around $110)? I usually go to 4wd industries but they are currently out of stock of theirs and the price is $430. I am weighing up a new plastic tank for around $80 or an ebay alu tank.

Already have a replacement bleed hose which I will fit with the tank.

    Cheers in advance.

I can't comment on the aluminium tanks, but the translucent plastic ones are better than the black ones.

If you don't already have them, get a low coolant alarm and an accurate temp gauge.

    Oh, and welcome to AULRO.

I've been running an ebay aluminium tank for a couple of years with no problems. I have a low water alarm and a digital temperature guage attached to the block as well. Have no leaks at all. One warning though, throw away the pretty aluminium lid that comes with it - it's not vented. Use a normal 300tdi radiator cap.

ive just bought a 98 D1. It has a black metal header tank.
It is solid etc so I guess no risk of it popping.
But I like to see the coolant level when I pop the bonnet.
Will change it over I think.
