    Disco 1 Buyer’s Guide

Hi all, I am looking at buying a 1999 Disco 1 V8 which has about 270,000km on the clock. I’ll go an inspect within next few days. Says he’s 2nd owner, has rego and RWC. Has done some beach driving by the looks of photos.

I searched but I couldn’t find… What are the typical things to look out for when inspecting do purchase these ones?

I’ve good experience restoring older (usually Japanese) cars but not much experience with 4WD or LR.

    Thanks in advance!

Check carefully for rust in the front footwells and luggage area floor, it's not necessarily obvious from under the car. Around the alpine windows is also susceptible to rust.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    Thanks guys - appreciate it.

I’ve heard overheating can be a common in the V8s. Anything specific to look out for here?

Split reservoir, hard to detect but the mid-height join fails. Best replacement is Allisport alloy one.

Nowhere near as bad as D2's.

As for rust as everyone has said. Driver and front passenger floor as Ian says. They all leak at some point and runs down and pools on the floor. I 🇦🇺 chassis are typically great because of good materials and rust protection dished out from rear mains, transfer case, diffs etc. Cheers

And the particular underlay used is a sponge so good the water stays there for years.
