ABS units made by the same manufacturer, it would seem.

Won't mention the manufacturer's name but you can view it under your bonnet - the D1 that is - unless you've got a Hawkei that happened to have fallen off the back of a flat bed truck, in which case product review please.

I've had trouble in the past with the previous owners option choice at purchase of the ABS unit in the D1. I've experienced no vacuum assisted breaking, just foot to the floor to scavenge anything you can from the disc breaks - but thankfully only when moving on at low speed from a parking spot, usually after work. Wait for the bang under the bonnet in the direction of the ABS unit and then all is well.

Getting a straight and reliable story from the news feeds about the Hawkei issue was difficult. Hawkei ABS units were either faulty because of software or the units themselves were faulty - take your pick. And under what circumstances were the vehicles considered dangerous? Most news feeds seemed to say they were dangerous on public roads at speed and withdrawn from service. I suspect news feeds feed off each other. Another news feed however started its description of the issue along the lines of '...unit failed... in steep terrain...diff locks not engaged...wheel spinning...please subscribe to read on'.

But apparently it is all fixed now.

No particular interest in the Hawkei. Just went down the rabbit hole listening to Ukraine's request for more Bushmasters. Australia has no 4x4 manufacturer for domestic supply ie for farmers, mining, recreation etc. So lets Wiki Bushmaster. How much does an armoured Bushmaster weight - how about a light weight Bushmaster for domestic consumption with throw on protection available in case of future strife. Hmmm, the Wiki has a link to something call the Hawkei. Interesting vehicle, but sheesh, a similar issue to my D1. Ukraine would also like Hawkeis and don't care about braking issues. If Ukraine was given D1's then they'd only have to pull the ABS fuse - wonder if that works on the Hawkei?
