i think i have posted this link a couple of times

i think i have only just recently thrown you gantry setup that was on the rig

Im only planning on a CF50 fridge slide that drops down, not an engine crane.

Interesting Defa though, I dont mind the floor for the rack made of sandwich foam, it would be much more effective than a safari roof but would catch the wind like a sail.

That system is quite easy to make, you get the extensions from a cabinet maker supplier like Lincoln Sentry, weld a angle line frame 2 heavy duty hinges and pronto!
Alternatively get the extension system from the fridge accessories supplier like ABR screw the hinges at the front of a sub frame an you have a extension with till option incorporated.. I just wandering how much they are charging for the rack on the web page ? Bugger another 10 cartons of grog :eek:

surely you could design a drop to the floor version utilising a pair of old shock absorbers and a hinged frame so the fridge (not matter what size can be handled one handed.

Thats a good one.

It would fit in the back of a D1 no worries unlike the ones that Weaco or Engle sell where the fridge slide takes up more room that the fridge.

There is another one (which I was talking about) which has 4 legs and gas struts that it lifts and lowers the fridge right out of the back of the vehical to about waist height and then with the help of the struts it is easilly lifted back into the back and then latched in place.

I'd draw a picture but I cant scan it to show you, It wouldnt be exy to build other than the struts but would suit those wanting to put the fridge up high on a racking system.

I still prefer the fridge as low as possible as it is pretty heavy as well so I try to keep the centre of gravity down as much as I can.

Im still yet to build mine though, I must get onto it soon.

If you incorperate cut up and cable tied together milk crates and basic feed bags into your cargo system it can be taken out at any given moment and ultilised as a means to get unbogged.

Cucinadio, I am traveling with my wife and a large dog. There is heaps of room at the back.The problem is that we like keep the basics only. We used to do extensive touring (8 months) on a motorbike towing a small trailer, so the Disco for us is huge !
At the bottom of the basket is the camping table, on one side are the 4 men tent, sleeping bags and other soft gear. On the other side are 2 folding chairs and bit an pieces. the single rear seat is folded and a volume equal to 200 lts is available for other gear. The dog sleep on the 2 seater and the floor space is full of gear.
Some times we towing a home made trailer made from the box of a single cab Ford Currier with FG canopies.
Keep it simple and basic we find that is the best after going from a motorbike to a motorhome.

cool mate was just striking convo, im in herey bay we will have to get together sometime for a junt or just a weekend away ive just moved up from the gold coast so im keen to make some new aquat's up this way
