Crammed a winch into a non winch bar today. Actually took me a couple of days, due to being slack and not having materials so using scrap steel and making it all up. Poor man install for sure.
Trying to tig weld with a crazy short earth lead and a shed packed to the rafters. Bottles that are attached to a non moving bench... Blah blah, i make my work harder than i need to. Weekend warrior welder here for sure.
Temp install, will be coming out and finish welding, adding a thick base and cleaning up all welds and painting. Might even slap some bog on there and make it look all preeeety for the next roo that wants to try jump it.
I am NOT a welder!! I know my welds are not good.
Everything is working except the tranny cooler line. Will need to get a custom one made to fit as there is literally no room at all. Any tips on that would be appreciated.

As you can see its quite crammed in there even before i wire it up and add the control box thingy.

Thats the underneath. I need to weld another 6 mill plate under that and the square holes you see are there so i have more surface area to weld when i weld in the bottom plate but also because i was literally using all the scrap i could find in the shed. Same reason for the washers. Taking the space currently but will obviously be removed when plate is there.
I had to drop the winch 20mm below the bottom of the bullbar so made up that and then put some scrap angle infront of it on a 45. When finished and cleaned up it work well as a deflective point.

Thats basically finished except the cooler line.
Like i said it needs to be taken off, finished welding and painted up but it is functioning. I did a first tension on the rope today with a non running car, fully charged battery though.
    Spooled perfectly.
First winch i have ever owned so kind of excited and proud of this......

You also need to do something about that bottom tube that’s destined to destroy your cable.

You mean the aircon lines? If so i intend to try lift those a little.
The tranny cooler line is just sitting there as its not connected yet. I need to get a new line and re rout it.
First test worked well although a road test with little load is nothing like a real rescue situation i realize.

No, the front cross bar on the bull bar.

Rarely is a pull horizontal and if the rope runs that bar you’ll snap it.

Ouch!! You dont think a synthetic rope could run along that without causing issues?
Damn man this may involve a bit more fab work. In for a penny in for a pound i guess.

    EDIT.

Had a shower and a think about this. Your spot on Tombie. Under heavy load situations and if lets say the nose was down in the mud the force would be pushing up on the bar because of it rubbing causing undue stress on the rope.
I think cutting the bottom bar 100 mm or so after outer join and then 45 angle up on both sides. Lifting the center of the bottom pipe 150 mm or so should do the trick.

    Thanks for the advice Tombie.
