Hmmm wonder what happened to Tombie.... Anyway i ended up making one myself and extended it out as you advised.

Not why i am at this thread. Wanted to post a pic of my car because i found it among old pics.

This was when i first got my car, before any mods were done.

Actually this pic is special to me because i worked out 2 things that day. My car is not a boat and im going bald.

For the record my car would eat a little puddle like that now. I was a novice back then. And the car was NOT prepared.

    Edddo's D1

Thought it was time to put up some photos of my trusty D1 that I used for remote touring, general camping and daily driving.
It is well maintained by me and by Ivan Clarke (local indi) for the more technical things.
Had it since 2009 when my previous D1 was rear ended while I was parked at roadworks - and subsequently written off.
It had 170k when I got it and now has 320k (but in reality closer to 330 as I have run 31's or 245/75s since I got it).
Original transfer case and engine (head never off).
    Reco Auto about 100k ago
    New radiator recently
    Garage floor is clean

    Mods:
Tru Trac diffs front and rear
approx 2 inch lift with Les Richmond springs (270psi rear, 180 frt) with HD Ironman Foam cell shocks ( impressed with these)
    Polyair bags
LongRanger long range tank and aux tank ( total on board about 150 lts)
TJM Bull bar with 12000 lb TigerZ winch
Steel rear bar with twin spare functionality that I don't use ( bought off someone here a few years ago)
    Rock/tree sliders
    Upgraded intercooler with IP tweak
    rear door table
    GME UHF
    Upgraded headlights
    EGT gauge
    TM4 gauge (trans and head)
    Low Coolant alarm
    Boost gauge
Dual batteries with Pirhana control unit.

Touring storage unit ( rear seats are gone)
holds - 40lt Engel on slide
    - 2 x water jerrycans
    - 2 x vertical 3 draw unit accessible from rear and inside see pics

    Has taken me:
    Across the Simpson
    Across the Gulf
    The complete Anne Beadell
Hay River Track south to north
Many a trip into the Vic Alps
to work and back a million times

Expedition fuel consumption is around 12 to 12.5 litres per 100 km ( with roof rack with spare on top)
    General highway around 10
general running home to work and around town about 11
These figures are not that great but I leave a bit of weight in it ( ie the touring kit0 and always run 31s)
It weighs about 2500 ( 1200 front 1300 rear) semi laden with me in it so it would be very close to max GVM in full expedition kit and load

Touring/expedition unit showing fridge, draws and door table. Water jerries slide in between the fridge and the draws
The draws hold plates, cutlery, daily use kitchen items including some food for daily use.
2 gas cookers sit above the drawers all a nice interference fit.

Instruments - EGT to left ( hard to see), TM4 low to the right

2 lower drawers accessible from inside. I put the camp oven, date loaf, various camp items that I need access to frequently in here.
The upper draw of this set holds mechanical spares (and is only accessible from the rear with the rear set of drawers out) - hoses, lift pump, some tools and stuff that I rarely need access to - as it is a PIA to get to.

She has served me very well. Has been cheap to run and own, never let me down or stranded me. I still love driving it.

The money I have saved sticking with her may go towards and INEOS Grenadier in a few years?

( edit - apologies it has rotated my pics - some times it does and sometimes it doesnt?)

    My 1998 TDi Discovery 1

    Hi fellow Disco owners,
It came with the side steps. I've added a secondhand alloy bullbar and driving lights. Just spent $1,000 on checking and rewiring electrics for electric brakes (Redarc Tow Pro), driving lights, two extra 12v sockets in cargo area and getting the bullbar indicators working. My auto-electrician tells me that it must have had an auxiliary battery at some point as there is a heavy duty solenoid installed in the engine bay. So have booked in to get this wiring done. The two rear speakers don't seem to work and there is no illumination of the auto selector window so will get these fixed as well. It has two small square speaker like objects on the inside of the front pillars. (Possibly for an alarm system so will see if it is installed and if not, get it installed. Will also get an immobilizer fob system installed and have it linked to the central locking. Will also get an EGT gauge, engine temp gauge and alarm added.IMG_20210307_160243.jpgIMG_20210307_160300.jpgIMG_20210307_160327.jpg

I think you'll find, these are tweeters for the stereo.

That, my friend, is leaving the sprinkler running under your car for a loooong time!
Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from taking a nap.
