Hi Mick;
I've got 2 x 4"inch Bostons in front and 2 x Pioneer (Yellow) 4inch " speakers in the back cargo area , whilst still sounds much better that stock ,it's not exactly MAN sound. heheh..
Howdy Guys , Well i have the disco in my hands now and took it for a quick run out in some very tame tracks . But listening to tunes while out and about was not the best as the standard speakers were crappy . Have any of you guys replaced the speakers ? And if so what brand and size did you use ? Thanks![]()

yes , they are used , mmm well , i can hear sound coming out of em..but what's missing is a little bit of base...Mick the new 4 " inch speakers just don't cut the mustard will need either a 5" or 6" in front , 4 channel amp and 1 x 8-10 inch " sub in cargo , then you start to get descent sound.
it's on my to do list...gotta get 4.11 diffs + 35" tyres and a flare kit sorted first..
i've had a few years experience in car audio, 2004-07 (selling/fitting and personal interest) the headunit is the single biggest addition/improvement u can make to a car audio system(from standard). admittedly, while i dont have any experience with landrover systems, i do know at least that the d2's use a eurovox tape/cd/radio unit. i can gather then that it is similar to the vn-vx commdores in power and quality.
if u already have an aftermarket deck, then i guess budget dictates. in 4", yeah u dont get a lot of bass, but pioneer's were always decent in the mainstram pricerange, bass especially. tsg series for the sorta $70 mark a pair (2 way) and i dont know if they do the tse(yellow 2 way) but they were around $130 a pair.
in headunits, really any of the brand names are good quality nowadays. sony/kenwood/pioneer/alpine/clarion/jvc and probably others i cant think of. this is all assuming you just want good quality at a regular price.
if u have say $300, buy a $150 cd player/mp3 and then buy 2 sets of $75 speakers. the difference u get from doing this, rather than spending $300 on 2 sets of $150 speakers is definately noticable. quality and volume.
in the end, the speakers only reproduce the signal that is given to them. a new player will have around 3x the power output and give a cleaner signal to boot.
hope this was helpful
Simon.
This is what i did for mine. hope the link works.
if not, go to communications car audio. I used Alpine speakers to replace the front & back, didnt bother with the 'A'pillar tweeters.

Hi.
96 Disco 1 V8.
99 Disco 2 TD5.
LROCV.
My RR has a pair of 4" in front and rear, good speakers but no real bass.
I have just added a Clarion SRV313 17cm Counter Drive Active Sub Woofer. Makes an amazing difference. Not the same as my sons 6" and 10" sub with multi amps etc, but enough to enjoy the music. I fitted it to the cargo barrier, just below the top of the back seat.
link to clarion specs etc:
