If your vacuum advance wasn't working then your economy would have been poor. Also be careful when routing the new one. First time I replaced it the fan belt cut it in two![]()
Hi,
OK so the title was a little sensationalist, but the advice is good.
My vacuum advance hose from the dizzy to the phlegm chamber looked all nice and shiny, no holes, no marks, no nicks, nada, all in perfect working order. Until the right angle boot that attaches to the dizzy fell apart in my hands as tried to remove it to get at the power steering hose.
$2 at the local mechanics for 40cm of vacuum hose and all was sweet again. In fact all was better than before. Better pick up, better fuel economy. The boot must have been decaying slowly over time, affecting the timing and hence the fuel economy.
My advise, if you still have the original on and it looks OK, nip down to the garage and change the pipe. Looks can be deceiving.
