Just to add something to the mix. When I got my Disco1 it came with Firestone all terrains in 255/70 16 (roughly same dia as 245/75 16). Same suspension as I have now but no cut guards. You could see where the tyres had just gently rubbed the paint off the guards where I said to cut them. That is after I had flexed them right up.
So if it is all terrains you are after in the bigger size then see how you go before you bother cutting the guards. You might just scrape it in.
Done, 245/75R16's it is then!
I'll get'em fitted and then see if I need to do a bit of trimming.
With my mild off-roading I might get away with it.
I run 245/70 r16 and they only just touch on full compression. As stated a small nick is all that is required the ho hars disco has the fold and unles you no about it you can't see it. My speedo with these tyres seem to over read so i wouldn't be too concerned about it.
Different brands of tyre, of the same 245/75 spec may have different dimensions, and the more aggressive tyres the sidelugs will stick out the side a little more and foul. That's possibly why some people need to trim less than others. I think unless you're always driving on level roads, you will need to trim.
I found the cut below was the minimum I could get away with using BFG MT as offroad and Cooper ATR as on road tyres. ( scuse the dirt- it's been wet and muddy here, hope it is reasonably clear ). I don't really notice this trim from above - not sure many future buyers would either.

and looking at my guards trimmed they look sort of silly compared to your Gaurds with wheels are flexing in and arching up and getting nicely tucked in.
The BWA alloys i have posted up in my pic are range rover rims so i suspect that they have a wider track and thats why they rubbed. Im guessing the standard alloy will sit in further and might only foul the bottom. Will see shortly, i already have the tyres and im just waiting for the rims to arrive.
Ok today i fitted the disco alloys which i fitted with 245/75/16 tyres. They only just rub on the front suspension arms, nothing to worry about realy. The rear quarters need trimming but only just. All that needs to be cut is the bottom inch of the folded in part of the quarter and about an inch along off the bottom of the quarter on the 45 degree bend bit. Nothing needs to be cut on the outside of the quarter. The cuts that are made cannot be seen unless you now what the rear folds looked like originaly. Pretty much its exectly like a few members on here stated.
Perfect size tyres for a disco i might add.

Yes the D1s look nicely balanced with 2" lift and 245/75 don't they.
235/85 looks very good too especially in a more aggressive tyre.
You should find your speedo is spot on now too.

You can adjust the steering stops if you like. Mine has never needed it but I suspect that is because the previous owner would have adjusted them for the 255s.
I've got 245/75 M/T's going on either Monday or Tuesday. I'll flex it up on my ramps when I get it home to work out how much to fold/cut on the rear.
Can anyone explain how to adjust the stops do they don't rub the steering arms please?
