    Probably the windscreen

Reviving thread as after all the rain over easter weekend and I happen to be up around Noosa Double Island in all the rain I noticed a little water dripping sometimes on to my right foot. I did have a new windscreen fitted a number of years ago and it was OK but with being in toowoomba I have not had any decent rain to drive in for a while. I am thinking wndscreen as it drips on my right foot but I cant see wear from passenger side is dry. Thought door seal near dash level also (but i think that was just pressuere cleaner when washing.)
Any thoughts as I would like to stop it before i get rust.
Has any one found there leaks.

I have actually seen water running down the threads of tight PK screws in the dash area of a Discovery.

AND I'm doing the same thing.
looked at running the wire for my rear battery.
found surface rust on the pas side and the foam on that side damp?????
still have to check AC drain.
now have all seats and carpet out.
    cut carpet under heater box.
cut foam around tran's tunnel and came out as one pice.

RUST, (surface) wire brush on the grinder, rust converter, prime, paint.
this time I'm not colour paining it but I will use black body deadner, so it will seal the floor seams.

Also found rust around cargo barrier mounts in both floor and roof, once the trim was removed...Not happy with the so & so that fitted it.

leaving the alpine windows for another time...

    Hi

I too have water in my passenger foot well (but never enough to wet the carpet, only the foam) on my D1. I have checked my air con drains, they are fine.
The 2nd possible cause of the leak could come from the wind screen as posted here by others. How ever, I removed the carpet, foam and windscreen panel at the bottom of the wind screen on the out side. My mate then used a hose 'on the outside' of the wind screen while I observed from the inside. I found water trickling in from the large wiring lume (or possibly above the lume) that goes through the fire wall. There is no water coming down the inside of the A pillar that I can see from the kick panel.

Has any one seen water come in from here, I can't work out how it gets there as the lume remains dry in the engine bay?

I have a sun roof also. Does this have a drain that goes some where?

I think I will start by having my windscreen re sealed. Then go from there.

Any advise is much appreciated. I love my disco dearly but it I have concluded it must be female based upon it constantly requiring my attention for small niggling concerns and maintenance.

    Thanks all

    Please help

    Dougie

Check in the front duct/drain under the wipers. The plastic intake duct from the dash is pushed through the body during assembly & not sealed very well/at all. Seal around there to eliminate that one. Probably do the screw heads as well while you are there.

Hey guys, jumping on the bandwagon here. We had some really heavy rain yesterday and my new series 1 disco now has wet carpets. The drivers well is wet down the edge of the door (no whre else that I can feel and the passenger's the same but less so)

I already have the foam and carpet out of the back and have reated the small amount of surface rust there but want to do the footwells aswell (play safe) Only thing is, There is a metal square at the side of the drivers seat which seems to trap the carpet and won't come up so how do I get the carpet up? Do I have to remove the seats and the lower seatbelt mounts?

    edit...
5h1t! just managed to get the edgings off and found the foam VERY wet, some surface rust(moderate amount which I am not really concerned about. The issue is that the passenger side has obviously been leaking for YEARS as the weld which runs down from the bonnet release catch is now a 2cm wide gap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know, should have looked more thoroughly when buying it but the rest of the car is in such good condition I didn't dig that deep! (idiot) Anyway, my question is this:
Is this an issue which requires welding or can I treat the rust and all is well? (I think welding would be best but I will yield to more informed opinions)

I'm taking the wing off tomorrow to see if I can trace the leak (assume it is from the bottom corner of the windscreen). Wil keep you updated.

My recently replaced windscreen leaked 2 days later as we had heavy rain.
The installer told me Discos sometimes leak. I had enough water to totally soak the sponge rubber carpet underlay.
I followed the LR water ingress suggestion of putting sealer in under the top Finisher strip.
I used Sikaflex, and no leaks yet even after the recent downpours.
God help anyone though that wants to replace the windscreen next time around

Found the issue! It's the drain at the bottom of the windscren into the front wing. The drain was blocked at the bottom and has rusted clan through. Can anyone tell me how to deal with this? If I remove the wing can I clean it up and treat it?
    Cheers,
    Phil

From what I can see of it, you will need to do that to get a good look at it & go from there.
