    Extractors

    Hi,

Extractors: who has 'em, what do ya think?

Do they make a difference to the Disco V8?
I'm talking D1 3.9V8i, but experiences with D2 would also be interesting.

Is the difference in power and/or economy noticeable?

I had H&M Headers on my '86 RR - but it had been bored and stroked to 4.6 litres and fitted with an Haltech EFI ECU. It also had a large bore exhaust.

So I don't know what affect it had.

It was much noisier in the cabin as the steel pipes are noisier than a cast iron manifold.

My D2 has em, although as i have no idea of what type they are since they came with the car when i got it and have not driven another D2 without them as a point of reference i can't really help on if they are a benefit or not.

I also only have a single cat, and have yet to confirm if there's actually anything in it or if it has been hollowed out at some point in the past too. A tap on it made a distinctly hollow sound so i know which way my suspicions lie....

Got to love my magical mystery Disco, what's it made of? Nobody knows.....

I've got a set of HM headers on the Disco and they're not worth it. Keep the stock system to where the Y joins and change from there back to a freer flowing system. You do notice a benefit from that.

Quite a few people told me not to get extractors as I wouldn't see any noticeable difference without engine mods too. I run a 2.5" system from the y-pipes back and this made a noticeable improvement.

Do you have a manual or an auto?

My understanding is that extractors are more benifit on manuals, something to do with autos spending most of their live in the lower rev range.

I have an auto, and it does spend most of it's life in the lower rev range, say below 2500rpm.

The rear section is 2.5inch I think, with a freer flowing exhaust already.

It appears from the comments that extractors are not worth the money.
