    A. There is no other person ringing
    B. It is just a bit of driveline back lash most likely but it may be the ball joint on the A frame on the rear suspention.

They all do do it to a point but it shouldnt have a lot of back lash but they do normally have a bit due to the amount of joints and connections you have in an Awd system as well as 3 diffs.

It would want to be damn cheap for me to look at a 94 models later models were generally a little better built.

    Hey

I bought a 94 ES with all the options for 5k.
    Done 110k.

At 270 the motor will probably need some work let alone all the other stuff.

    Definately get it checked out.

there will always be more, no such thing as cheap if its going to cost you heaps in repairs later.

Check all the electrics, they go, the windows, leaking sunroof, oil and colour of water etc.
even a comp check. should be around 140 or at least be all even.

Best of luck but remember, there will always be another one.

uni slop is not a big cost item to fix but there are a few other sources of backlash that will cost a few more bucks. axle spline to drive flange slop in one, for less than a K should be able to fix. The other problem could be gearbox to tc spline wear, than one could cost a bit more.

Im thinking that 6k is probably too much for a V8 94 Disco these days with 270k on the clock seems you can get 300Tdi's for that money and up depending on condition in car yards and easilly that money privately or at auctions.

Just my opinion, it's your money so you will have to make up your own mind but as slugburner said, check it out but use your mechanic not theirs.

Agree - I picked up a late 94 V8(3 door) with lone ranger tank, warn winch and Arb bar for 2.5k (215k on the clock). Was a bit rough around the edges - but what do you expect for that money.

I too sometimes get the big clang when engaging gears from park or nuetral.

Checked drivetrain out for backlash - but didn't seem excessive.Put it down to drivetrain loaded up in one direction and selecting gear in the opposite direction. As it only happens occasionally and mostly when I'm on a bit of a slope.

Driveline slack will most likely be wear on the splines of rear output shaft of the gearbox - particularly at 270,000km - mine started to show at 100,000km.

Not an expensive fix when it first starts but on higher mileage examples will require the replacement of the output shaft and its matching input drive to the transfer case.

This will be an expensive exercise so I would get it all get checked out first.
