98 Disco 300Tdi bonnet catch failing

    Hi,
My bonnet catch is no longer holding and I can't (for the life of me) work out why. I have pulled everything apart and I can't see that either the slide or the prong is worn and I can't see that it is adjustable either. I have tried lengthening the prong, but with no luck. Any thoughts?

is the cable kinked or sticking and not allowing the catch to return completely ....

you've just reminded me that Annettes car also needs bonnet catch attention

Probably the cable needs greasing/oiling, if it is not too bad then you only need to disconnect it the bonnet end, use CRC or similar, liberally on the inner wire and try moving it from the lever in the cabin. It has probably rusted up somewhere and it will not have the full movement. If left undone then it eventually will stick and then it is a major job to open the bonnet.

    Thanks Stevo and LSBob,

You are right, it was a simple lubrication issue. I feel a little dumb now. I am so used to major things going wrong recently that I forgot to check the simple things. Thanks muchly.
