    Steering damper or not??

    Howdy all

Well, got the auto and cooler sorted, now to fix the transfer case leak.....hang on.... what's that . The steering damper has snapped off the pin connection to the track rod. One stuffed steering damper . But that's not all...... the track rod is starting to look like a banana.....

My question to all of you far more knowledgeable people. Can I operate the disco (series 1 98 auto 300tdi) without the steering damper?, and can I leave the track bar as is?

I was intending on lifting the damper up onto the draglink, this discovery has just forced my hand a little earlier than expected.

    Cheers

A steering damper does not seem to be essential - I drove my Disco for a while without it, quite frankly I couldn't feel any difference. I have one on now but it is a Pedders one and a POS ( rattles ).

However if your track rod is bent your wheel alignment will probably be out and cause premature tyre scrub out. You'd need to get it replaced or at least get a wheel alignment done.

If everything is setup correctly you dont need it....

I will sometimes remove the damper to help track down a vibe fault at the front end.
