Tyre Size Recomendations For Highway Driving

It's time to get new tyres for my 95 Disco and I have the Original LR 16" rims and I want to keep these rims on but only get highway tyres but what would be the best size to use on these 16" rims. The current size is 235/70

I will be buying another set of steel rims for 4W driving later on before the holidays.

Doing it this way should save me money in the long run as I do alot of highway driving.

    I don't believe you should have any trouble finding a highway biased tyre in 235 X 70. I run 255 X 65 on my d2.

I run the 235/70 Michelin Latitude Tour HP on my 'every day' alloys. I couldn't be happier with their performance as a highway tyre.

A recent trip to Fraser Island proved them to be great in sand also.

265/75/16's, i'm reluctant to put my 235/70 HT's back on as the 265's are sooo much better, performance is better i feel and it just cruises nicely with the speedo reading spot on- 98 TDI auto.

I found 245/70/16 to be an excellent size for both D1 and D2 highway usage.

Looks like I have found the tyres I will be putting on after I talked to the manager at Beaurepaires and he called around and found me a set of Hankook Tyres Dynapro HP RA23

These seem to be perfect for my driving use.

    Go for it mate.

have you given the Michelin xpc a thought.
expensive but were standard on the car when released and very quiet.

I still run them now and even take them off-road as they are self-clearing mud and snow tyres.

I get average of 70000 k's out of them.

    Good luck.

Finaly got the new Hankook tyres today and took her for a test drive on the highway and what an even better difference at has made along with the steering overhual done a month ago. All I need to do is get a new set of shockey's and coil springs and she'll be right for a long time.

The odd thing when getting the new ones one we noticed that the new ones looked larger to the old ones so the manager called a few place and then found out why the company that make the NELEX brand tyres have been known to make false tyre sizes. And NELEX is what they call a nasty cheap brand.
