D1 cruise control cuts out for no reason

Seems find during normal driving, but when we hit the open road, every now and then the cruise cuts out and won't come back on for a a while.

Is it something inside the unit getting too hot?

    Common fault?

Mine was doing that on & off.

Closely inspect all your vacuum hoses, especially the T piece behind the washer bottle. That's where my last one was. I cut back all the ends & refitted them again.

Mine used to do that - turned out to be leaky vacuum hoses as mentioned already. Alternatively, the cruise control unit could be fritzed which turned to the be the reason it was cutting out after I got all the hoses fixed.
