Hey all,
Just doing the basics to the Disco at the moment and I'm neck deep in a turbo Falcon project and I don't want both getting out of hand... but, I am thinking down the track and wanted to see if anyone had any experience with adding boost to these engines. I'd only be wanting maybe 10psi max, but will they handle it? What's the static comp ratio?
oh... and with the risk of being told off for posting Ford pics, here's where I'm at with my other car right now. Should spin into 2nd

Give Malzy a call, he is the only bloke I know that has turbo'd (actually twin turbo'd) a 3.9 in a Disco.
It was his bro's disco and it was at the Wandin 4wd show a few years back.
Last time I was at his factory he had the engine sitting on an engine stand waiting for his new boat.

Std comp on the 3.9 is on 8. something so a bit of boost wouldn't be a problem. Centrifugal superchargers seem to be a more popular option though.
I have a Turbo Rover 3.9 V8 in a Rover SD1.Running a single turbo T04 on straight gas.It has a compression of 9.35 and runs 9 pounds of boost with no detonation. The torque in it is unreal and makes full boost by 1800 rpmIf i had the money i would do the exact same thing in the Disco except with maybe a Ford turbo or twin smaller turbos off a Skyline.
You might get people telling you not to do it but for the power and fun you will have in it,you will never look back.

they like it enough if you dont go stupid without shoring the guts up....
the supercharger that replaces/mounts on the vally is the easier option...

Surplus parts from above mentioned project??
I've got a mate with a BF xr6t ute pumping about 350rwkw and it lights them up at 80 km/h. All bolt on mods and tune. I imagine you've done this but I've measured the falcon motor to see if it would fit in the disco but looks like its just a tad too long. Shame, woulda been nice with the zf 6 speed behind it too
.
The disco engine bay looks like it was made for a pair of turbos to hang off sides of the motor though.
If going with the turbos, I'd have to lean towards a smaller unit for each bank becasue I think you'd have problems spooling up a T04 size unit off one bank and the plumbing to make a custom manifold to run the turbo off both banks may be a bit too much of a challenge.
Maybe a pair of T28 size turbos would be good. Minimal lag while still being able to produce good numbers and there were enough tx3 and tx5s around for there to be a few spare turbos floating about.
