How Do You Remove The Steering Wheel Safely

I'd also recommend spending 10 or 15 bucks at Supacheap (or equivalent) on a steering wheel puller. Waaay easier than trying to bash/pull the thing off the steering column - especially if it's never been off before...much less frustrating and you'd probably end up putting that much in a swear jar anyway :)

It's best to leave the nut on the steering column a few turns until the steering wheel is loose. This way it won't fly off and hit you in the face as when you knock it off the taper.

There's always the "approach it from the other end" method:

1. Remove front bumper and grille
2. Remove Radiator
3. Remove engine
4. Remove brake booster
5. remove firewall
6. remove dashboard
7. remove steering wheel through engine bay leaving airbag in place!!

The above procedure does not appear in the Rave CD for a reason, Haynes too have chosen to omit this from their superior publication because it is really a load of rubbish. Everyone knows you don't have to touch the brake booster!!!!






On the upside if the airbag goes off and knocks you out, it thoughtfully doubles as a pillow while you sleep it off!!
