    D1 swaybar disconnects

Installed a full set of four in the Disco yesterday and took is off road today. Holy crap they made a huge difference! The added flex gave it so much more grip and kept the car so much more stable.

That combined with the new EFS suspension.

    awesome.

Disconnect kit was from Aedofab Off-Road Fabrications

Great value for money, easy to fit and very easy to use.

    Tell him Boxer sent you.

    Pics?

No swaybars does make a big difference. I don't have one on the rear since crunching the RHS chassis mount. Not that the sway bar was on when that happened mind you.
Never taken the front one off.

Yeah, I tried it with the front one off first, then both. Having both off made a big difference.

Will have pics of mine, but here's a shot from their website

You can make your own very similar to that with some towbar reciever hitch pins and a bit of tubing.

I would have thought a welded washer would have been better than the split pin.

I am presuming theirs have an engineer's cert ?

I have looked at this in the past.
I do not like the design as there is no tension on the bushes.
The rubber bushes should have tension on them as they are the only thing that holds the swaybar from moving sideways and there ain't much room at the axle ends between the axle mount and the chassis.
I have made "reasonably quick" disconnects on mine by grinding off the nyloc part of the nut and then drilling the bolt for an identical P pin to the photo. This means the bushes can still be tensioned by the nut and washer.

I like the idea on the 38A links with the two spherical joints.
BUT I think it would be very hard/impossible to get an engineer to approve either type as AFAIK spherical joints are illegal and I am sure that "Heath Robinson " deal would be too..
If you could get two OEM links and machine the shaft of one to make it male, and machine the other end of the other to a female, then drill them for a pin that would be ideal, but I do not think there is enough meat. This would be similar to the Jeep setup, but the Jeep ones are much longer.

What size tubing is needed for inside the bushes? I've got the correct pins and clevis', but unsure about the tube size

    Thanks

Whatever will fit tightly inside the bush, and the clevis pin will then slide into.
When I was playing with these I just used a bit of chromed tubing from an old towel rail.
I've since removed mine and gone back to stock due to the engineer's certification issue.

I wonder if there really is an engineering issue. The older pre update Disco and older RRC never had sway bars and the update Disco is really the same with swaybars added.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm seriously considering just taking the rear one off totally

I was told by Graeme Cooper that the decider is whether any model sold anywhere in the world during that production year came without the item in question. If not an individual engineers report is required. That is why Cooper never got involved with 38A springs.
On that basis you can fit springs to all RRC as they always came with springs as well as air.
Similarly sway bars were a production option on RRC in 92. In USA the "Sherwood" came without them and I am sure the commercial van model also did not have them. I have taken my back one off to fit a 134L tank and am sure to take the front off is OK.

So have a look and see if you can find whether some basic model came without them in your year.
