Loss of power tdi 300 98 disco

Hi have just rebuilt the engine 300 tdi and have finally gotten rid of the tappet noise I had ( turned out that I was one tooth out on the injection pump ) . Has been going like a dream, but has suddenly developed a loss of power and surges when accelerating, if I feed in too much throttle it loses power. It tries to pick up but cant quite get there !

    any ideas gurus ?

Check that one of your turbo hose clamps hasn't come loose

Also Jan it is possible and I'm no guru , that when you rebuild the engine with correct Torque setting on your Timing Belt , it is possible that your timing belt has found it's way loose after your torqued it up, this can lead to loss of power.

Are you sure your pump timing is correct now?

Is there a good fuel supply to the pump? Have you checked the fuel filters?

A fairdimken diesel mech will come along soon and sort it out.

I would be looking again at things like throttle cable adjustment and fuel filters as well as make sure there is no air or water in lines etc.

But from what it sounds like your luckey its running.

It sounds like is that the bolts on the Inj pump pulley have some loose and the pulley is up against the end of the slot but because you have skipped the belt around a tooth it is still in the running zone but only just.

You will have the belt 1 tooth off the correct one and then with the bolts loose on the pulley you make sure it is a loose fit with the locating pin so that the bolts are more or less in the centre of the slots.

This gives you plenty of adjustment and then if they come loose it stops.

Hi have solved the problem, cleaned the sedimenter, new filter and clean diesel and all seems normal again.

    Thanks all for the advice
