Cooling system bleeding
Hi,
is there a way, or need, to 'bleed' the cooling system of a '96 Disco 1 V8i to eliminate possible air block after some coolant has been drained off and then topped off again?
I have installed the 'Engine Saver' yet even though the water level at the header tank is correct the warning buzzer and LED of the engine saver stays on and yes, I have checked what little wiring there is
Thanks for any input.

I can help you there.
Go to Engine-Saver's website & look for the link for Land Rovers. You should be able to find a link back to here, of a post/idea with an image I came up with to do just that, using a cut down 2 litre coke bottle.
They asked permission to use that thread & it's there somewhere.

thanks for that 4bee.
I managed to 'bleed' it, I waited until it cooled down a bit, loosened the header filler cap, then removed the top plug/sensor for the engine saver, water started to well out and I immediately replaced the plug/sensor....bingo...topped up the header and now its working just fine

Ah right. Since that was posted they have changed the design to the rad. in-tank sensor instead of the in-hose sensor so it may not have worked anyway. It's better if you have the vehicle on a cross slope to get the bleed plug at the highest point.
Still, you are right now.
