D1 interior roof lining

I know this is an old thread, but thought if I added some info it may help someone.

When I purchased our Disco, the liner was sagging real bad so I pulled it out and gave it the "once over". I removed the felt and foam backing as best that I could, then bought a 4 litre container of Turps and soaked the liner while scrubbing to get the glue off, then let dry for a couple of days. After I was happy all the turps had evaporated I used fence stain (had it in the garage) and painted it all over the liner, turned out brilliant. The stain soaked in real well, I was using black stain but it came out a nice darkish grey, I think it looks mint :cool:

I will never have a sagging liner again and the part itself looks like it was made that way. If anyone wants a pic, I will post one up.

I hope this might help someone who does not want to spend $$$$$ on getting the liner re-done.

The PO of my disco cut light ply into the shape of the sun roofs and screwed them up into the hood lining where the sunroof would go and it tightend all the loose hood lining, he painted it light grey and looks the part.

In the first pic, it does look a little greenish in the left but it is just reflection from what is in the passenger seat ;)

looks quite ok to me. tempted to give mine ago:pBaz

I took the lining out of mine and it wasn't that hard just fiddly and time consuming, once all the trim is out the shell just comes out the tailgate door.
To be honest, I think it would look a bit naff painted, just my opinion though.

What glue is the best to use if you just want to inject a bit to hold up a section of the lining? I'm guessing some glues would stain.

I used super glue in a syringe and injected dots in neat rows about 10 cm apart including all the corners to get the shape back. In the end the roof looked good, and its not obvious at all. Cost? $4.25

hey disco lovers:twobeers:, i removed removed the lining and backing through the rear door ( after removing all screws) took the ling of and gerni'ed it (high pressure hose) let it dry then 4 spray cans of black on the backing from supa cheap and it look better than i thought. i was very impressed:D

I'll stick to my guns with my old Disco on this. If you're willing to go to the effort of pulling it all out, take it to a trimmer and get them to redo it properly. Doesn't cost the earth, or even a small percentage of it and it's brand new afterwards.
