Sounds similar to what Roothy just did in his Landcruiser ute. He says its got mega balls and would drive up a wall, but it's like following a 747. It's that loud under the bonnet.

Yep, just got off the phone with him then, he said if you can avoid doing the conversion please don't do it. He said his 4bta engine has no rev range, it's insanely loud and really doesn't suit a 4WD.

Ever thought of dropping a Duramax in it

i have fitted one to an 80 series but we opened the governor up to 3200 which made it a lot more drivable and it has an awesome torque curve
as for roothy what did it go into?
a 40 i suppose which are noisy at the best of times
the governor spring can be changed in about 1 hour they are a bit of a mission but doable the engine we put in the 80s pulled 135hp @ 2950 at the rears on the dyno and 425ft/lb @1700

Oh, that's definitely interesting. Any chance you could shoot me a PM with info about it or your contact details. I'm sure Roothy would be really keen to hear about how it's done.

Den - Dodge CTD 1st Gen - VE Governor Spring Install
this is how we did it we used fishing line to hold the lever back
not sure wher to get the spring from as it came with the engine
possibly try cummins for a marine governor spring

Thanks for that Allan, I've passed it on to him. I'm sure he'll be wrapped.

well looks like the idea has been scraped due to the fact that i cant find a good enough tranny to transfer adapter so i might be working the 300tdi over a bit
the engine will physicaly fit but there is no body making a substantial t700 to lt230 adapter that will handle high speed for very long
looks as though i will just be working my 300tdi unless i can find a more suitable engine
if any 1 is interested the dimensions of the 4bt cummins is L670mmxH800mmxW620mm
the engine will only do 2495 rpm stock but you can fit a 3200 rpm spring pretty easy
upper and lower coolant pipes are rhs
