Here's a couple of pics of my rear bar, imported in from uk by rovacraft, paid $650 for it, the 4 bolts in the middle mount it via a heavy duty bracket to the chassis. it's a tight fit but looks good, reduces departure angle slightly and gets rid of the silly plastic end caps! also has hi-lift jack points if you have a defender jack adaptor. 5mm thick steel, made no difference to rear ride height of vehicle

Looks very neat, the only setback for making something like that would be making those end bits which replace those stupid plastic corner peices, you would have to be pretty talented to make them out of steel i reckon;)

Two things I don't like about the stock disco rear bar and many of the replacements are:
They are horrid dust collectors - no reasonable gap or slope so dust can get away. The only advantage is a good surface to stand on to put/get stuff on a roof rack - but I don't use roof racks.
And the distance the protrude rearward - I always seem to lean against them to reach whatever I want and dirty my pants :eek:
I have to make a replacement for my damaged bar. When I get around to it, I will use tube so it won't collect dust.

My D1 also has no plastic end caps on the rear bar at the moment due to some unforeseen earth banks and rocks....ahem!:):)
Am very interested in this tube bar idea as well. Considering I'm in Newy and your listed as Lake Macquarie, Bushy65, maybe there's an opportunity to pool some ideas?

Hmm we should get a group purchase going or something and work out what we need so that several people could replace the crappy rear bar and get some decent protection in there.
Or we could have a big rear bar making day:D

I did a lot more damage to my rear bar than that - the disco I bars with lights in them are very weak.Quote:
