I recently did a bunch of tune ups to the wifes 300TDi disco. The exhaust made a difference, the pump mod made a difference, a new air filter made a difference. And something my mate with a patrol suggested, I removed the intercooler and flushed it out with brake clearner and got all the oil out of it, this actually made a big difference. Anyone got any good suggestions on how to stop this oil transfer in the crankcase ventilation?

I also replaced the two flexible hoses going to the intercooler with silicon units, as they were soft and expanding, this made a big difference down low.
All in all each mod only made a small improvement but all together thay added up to a reasonable differance.
I have a feeling that the flexible joint in the exhaust is starting to collapse. So a new slightly larger exhaust is next on the list.

    Cheers

It seems to be working well on mine, I hardly have any oil residue in my intake lines any more and im sure I can improve the plumbing on mine so it could work better.

Hi can you elborate on the exact procedure you used for flushing the intercooler. What brake cleaner did you use ? I've been thinking of doing it but am afraid of the risk of overunning the engine on the residual vapours.

sorry is this a hijack ?? it is related to the original subject.

I did it on my last disco using acetone. It is best to remove it altogether, lie it on its back, fill it and leave for a while to dissolve the rubbish. If you leave it dry properly, you should have no problems. when reassembling, leave the top intake hose off the manifold, then as you move it nearby to reconnect it, if the engine picks up you know the vapours haven't dissipated.
