    Redline in 3.9 V8?

    What do these engines red line at? I dont drive my cars to redline, but they dont have any red on the tacho.

    5500rpm?

    They redline when the valves start to bounce, between 5000 for a worn cam engine to about 5800 for a good'un.
    Basically, until they stop producing power and sound flat.

    Not that I'd know about that, of course...

    between 5500 and 5800 according to what I have seen

    dont you just do the "pull a spark plug, stuff the pot full of rope, wind it up till it stops, fit oversize collets, back the crank pull the rope put the plug back in and repeat on all remaining pots" trick when that happens?

    well, mine is a 3.9 auto, and if i hold it hard flat, it goes to about 7, but that's a guess as the tacho stops at 6, it goes way past that.
    never read what the book says, but rick, our local guru says these engines are good for it.

    oh, it ain't got to valve bounce at that either.

    They are good for 6 to 7 without coming to bits yes, but usually 5800 is about when they run out of 'useful' power.
