i was in the bush for a couple of hours ........... and i come out and drove down the road and my clutch got soft and hard 2 get in gear ..... i checked the hydrolic fluid and it was empty ... i filled it up and and its still soft .... what do i need to do ... do i need to bleed it or something or could it be something else..... i drive a 91 landrover discovery 2 door on gas and petrol and one who could help would be much appreciated cheers guys
Check around master cylinder and brake booster for leaks. If no leaks i would probably try bleed it if no go pull slave cylinder off get it checked or replace it. Then if no good it maybe the master cylinder or booster. Someone else will chip in with more detailed descriptions.;)
G'day, I recently had the pivot snap on my '95 V8. The symptoms were a loss of clutch pedal also, though not entirely, and it killed the bearing also. Fortunately I had a spare sitting in my shed :D

my money says its the clutch slave.
to check
locate the flex line that leads to the clutch slave cylinder and gently clamp it preferabley with a brake line clamp.
add fluid to the clutch resivior and you should wind up with a spongy but firming pedal.
release the clamp and pump merrirly while someone keeps adding fluid and you should get a semblance of pedal.
if the fluid keeps dissapearing while the line is clamped you need a new master cylinder, a kit to put through it or have it done professionally and get it sleeved in Stainless stell with a stainless stell piston. If you go the SS route then pull the slave at the same time and get that done too.
I've had a similar experience with a Pajero that I owned and it turned out to be a hydraulic hose from the master to the slave cylinder that had burst. I remember having to stick my foot underneath the pedal and fill the reservoir every half hour until the hose was replaced.Quote:
