so, what lead you to believe a new "loom" was required?

All Late classic RR's and Disco 1 and 2 have a fuel pump access hatch in the rear cargo area. The loom runs across the top passenger side of the tank to a connector near rear resonator. It can be fed out and back in that way.

If you have had the meltdown of connectors, A good fix is to 'hardwire' the pump + and -. Just shave off the plastic parts of the pump unit socket to uncover the corresponding + and - pins and solder directly to them, bypassing the plug altogether. Leave the plug connected for the fuel gauge operation.

    THanks guys.

    V8 Petrol 5 door - Darwin.

I have that access hatch you refer to.

Definitely not the pump - already installed a brand new pump @$400 - and the problem was not even the pump!

The damn wiring loom is the culprit. It has a burnt out connection in one of the female connections (plastic surround has a burnt black colour around it).

To start vehicle, I have to unplug this loom, wiggle it and then then re-insert. It sometimes starts - if not I have to unplug it again and do the same until it starts.

Hard wiring is a good idea - but may do this as a last resort.

I have already bought the new loom to replace.

How can i access this connector (near resonator) - from top or undernath vehicle?

Can this loom be fed blindly and still expect it to 'land' near pump after it is fed back in?

    OK -

I know how to change this harness out without removing tank.

I can access the harness from near passenger rear wheel and then then attach the new harness to existing one and pull it through.

    THanks for you help.
