    Brake Warning light Question

    Evening all,

did a search but came up empty(ish) handed.

My "Brake" Warning light has come on, and was wondering if there is perhaps a common reason for this - ie handbrake not registering as off properly or something.

Brake performance of the car is as per normal, no change whatsoever, with new front pads having been installed in November.

So, is there a simple explanation? Or shall I trundle it in to a brake place for a squiz?

97 D1 V8 Manual. All suggestions appreciated - the car is grounded until I sort this - one way or another

    Thanks

are you talking about the one thats ment to go away when you take the handbrake off OR the brake differential pressure warning light.?

if its the park brake one then try pushing the brake lever down by hand while you hold the ratchet release in. if that turns out to fix the park brake light problem your park brake needs adjusting.

Is there more than one Brake Warning Light? lol

It just says "brake".. and is near the eng temp warning light. I am pretty sure it used to go off once the park brake goes off, but according to the manual it can suggest other brake problems.

Thanks for the tip, will give that a go tomorrow.

Light staying on can indicate brake fluid low or brake pad wear (if wear indicators fitted)

grab a pic of the light... or scour the net and see if you can find one that shows the particular light your talking about...

you should have 2 brake warning lights.

1 tells you that the handbrake is not fully released and the other lets you know that you have a pending critical brake issue from one of 3 sources

    1. you are low on fluid
    2. you have a brake pressure differential and therefore a leak
    3. you are low on pad meat.

I would imagine only if you have wear sensors fitted with the pads...

otherwise I dont know what else it could tell you inregards to a defect as there are no sensors apart from abs

Sorry I meant low fluid and pad wear as well as telling you the handbrake brake is off.

    Thanks everyone.

Mine is an SE, so no ABS which eliminates that one.

Brake pads are 5 months old and I don't brake THAT hard or that often, but will look into it. Fingers crossed something to do with the handbrake
