I did the heads on my V8 a few months ago. I'm a mechanic by trade, but that's not to say others couldn't tackle it themselves. Overall I did the whole job for about $600. My heads were good so I just had them cleaned and skimmed, then fitted the new VRS set. Main pain in the arse is the angle torque head bolts. Excuse the pottyness, but getting to them is a ****, getting them undone and done up is a ****. Saving the money is a plus.

I got it done at Graeme Cooper's and they did do a lot for that money (head pressure testing, cleaning all the parts etc) and after it was all done the engine sounded better and ran smoother than ever before.
i'm doing my heads now. i've spent just under $1500. that includes getting the heads reconditions, water pump, bottom raidator hose, engine mounts, auto filter kit, vrs kit, rear main and rear main t seals, plugs and leads.
having a copy of rave will help you as sometimes you forget where things go.
Sorry for offending in my post. What I meant to say is that getting to the head bolts is a thouroughly unenjoyable experience. Especially when you're in a tin shed in the middle of summer.
Your not wrong about the head bolts, the outer 2 rears ( nearest to the firewall) are doosies, As to get a socket and bar on them at the angle they are with the engine in the vehicle:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:GRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRRR!Quote:
