Sure, if your hoses are delaminated you will see a big change no matter which new hoses you fit.

What if your hoses are soft and weak; won't some of the initial pressure from the turbo go into expanding the hoses ever so slightly?

So with softer hoses it will take slightly longer to reach the same pressure as with stronger hoses?

I know when I switched to silicon hoses, I'm sure the engine picked up quicker and just reved a little freer. I'm sure I'm not dreaming! :D

There may be a slight decrease in lag, but it'd be bugger all.
Once boost is up to the maximum, power and torque will be totally unaltered regardless of which hose you have.

My 90* hose was soft and mushy, and I didn't feel any difference in lag after replacing it.

Generally my driving doesn't call for maximum power and boost, so this realm is rarely used.

I believe the somewhat small decrease in lag combined with the general quicker and easier increase in pressure from the turbo due to the more robust hoses and thus pressure system, gives a noticeable improvement in overall driving experience.

All my hoses were 10 year old originals with no delamination but very soft and pliable.

When I switched to silicon hoses I could definitely feel a seat of the pants improvement.

The turbo lag, whilst obviously still there, was certainly reduced.
The auto box holds gears for longer and appears to not need to change down as much as before.

Changing to silicon turbo hoses is definitely a modification I would make again with no hesitation. :D

It's a turbo diesel, virtually anything above 1800 RPM's accelerating you will be using full boost, even when not using full throttle. ;)

So from 2000rpm or so onwards, the turbo will be spinning at maximum speed producing maximum boost all the time?

No, but it's surprising how little throttle produces maximum boost when accelerating.

Steady state cruising down the highway in my Defender at 100km/h, boost can be anywhere from 9 psi to 14 psi, EGT's from 370* to 485* depending if it's a slight up or downhill, tail or headwind.
Maximum (stock) boost is 1-1.1 bar, 14.5-15.5psi.
I mostly see 12-14 psi cruising at 100km/h and mine tops out at 16.5psi.
