    Hi Mate
Never owned one but this is a very common question.
Answer usualy is replace/check temp sensors and also look into the stepper motor.

Have a look on Ebay, there is a seller roverlord1, he has Brand new Mafs for Disco1s for $389 plus postage. He has good feedback on the mafs he's sold.
I have one of them and have had no problems in the last 12months.
I went through 2 recoed units before I fitted one of his(the recoed ones cost me $550 each so not impressed.)

The stepper motor is on the rear of the plenum, it has 3 allen head bolts and they can be loose, check this first, remove it and clean it with carb cleaner as well as it's seat in the plenum, give the hot wire, top left corner of MAF a spray with carb or MAF cleaner, also check the wiring loom is a tight fit, I twist the terminals slightly and refit, if it's still playing up have your Temp. sensors tested, before you spend big bucks on a new MAF, Regards Frank.

Check your thermostat's working properly and is the right one (88 degrees). Also clean around the throttle butterfly and spindle entrance to the plenum chamber with carb cleaner. And check the breather hoses aren't blocked.

It can tell the ECU that the engine is running at a temperature which requires the ECU to increase fuel, Regards Frank.

That's right, the ECU is in enrichment mode which doesn't fully cut out until the temp reaches about 81 degrees if I remember rightly. So if the thermostat's stuck open, or is the wrong one, the ECU will be throwing more fuel in and it'll idle higher.
