95 Disco 300TDI Water in Auto Gearbox

As some of you may already know i drowned my disco a few weeks ago at cruiser park. And the gearbox got full of heaps of water.... i drove the car home with the first lot of water in it and then when i got home i changed the oil and it seemed to work quite well. I changed the interior and it was sitting for a week or so then i took it for a drive to the auto electrician and after a while of driving it started to rev high and it seemed to be in neutral and none of the gears worked accept for park. I turned it off and left it for a little while and then started it again and it went into drive but then after about 500m or so it did the same thing...

I have been told by an auto transmission place that its probably stuffed... just wanted some confirmations from some other disco owners... i have another gear box which is in good condition so thats no problem, its just its such a big job....

not sure if youve noticed but ive just had my zf rebuilt and had a bit of trouble, after the rebuild i lost all drive out of no where and that turned out to be the kickdown cable, also it was always hard to get it into gear when cold and had to warm up before it would get out of first(before rebuild) rebuild at $2200 fixed this than also aftee he fixed it the second time i had trouble getting it onto drive when cold this turned out to be the o ring on the filter so it could be something simple causing your problem or could be serious

have you replaced the filter and flushed the box out of all the old fluid as a simple change will still leave some of the old fluid in the lines to the cooler

It could just be the filter blocked up with clutch material but if there was a fair bit of water in there then it will be cactus.

The clutch plates dont like getting wet, they tend to disintergrate rather quickly.

I would change the filter first though, much easier than the whole box.

By the way just incase your good nick trans is from a V8, you cant run a V8 trans in a Tdi as there are differences in the input shaft, front pump and valve body are different, to cope better with the vibrations from the diesel engine.
