S1 Nudge Bar Air Bar Question

    Hi All,

I've searched for this but can only find info relating to 'bull bars'.

My questions is this: Do nudge bars need to be a special type for airbag equiped S1's?

I've been told by the seller that the same part number was used for non air bag and air bag models. If this is the case then I'd like to buy it, otherwise I'll keep searching. Basically want a little nudge bar to mount a set of spotties, have no requirement for a big bull bar.

    Cheers in advance.

If it's a genuine nudge bar, then they are all SRS compliant as far as I know. They are very weak though & offer very little in the way of protection.

A nudge bar is only good good for hanging ornaments off it like driving lights or aerials, they offer little in protection as said earlier, They also have a week spot where the pipe joins the mounting plate, the powder coating cracks which in turn allows rusting and later it just falls off.
I know as I had one

    Cheers guys,
Im new to Land Rover and the few times I've asked questions on here I've had helpful reponses.

The bar is a genuine LR part but on closer inspcetion is was pretty ruff has fair bit of rust bubbling under the black coating and weld broken on the mount.

I can understand they'd be useless for protection, but I am only after a place to mount some spotties.

I'll post a wanted ad up to see ifI can find one in better nick.

    Cheers

    G'day Rezley,

I had one on my 98 Disco (WIth Airbags). The nudge bar rests against the "cans". When you hit something the bar will push the cans in an whammo - face full of bag. Yes the original bar is airbag compliant.

I sold mine on ebay a few months back - I was very surprised to get over $300 for it Really just powdercoated exhaust pipe but, as you say, good for spotties and CB antenna.

There is one on ebay at the moment.

Yeah - it was weird, I had it lying in the back yard for months. Eventually I put it on ebay with a $40 starting price. Hoping for $100, although I would have sold it for $40. Well they all got caught up in a bidding war and I cleaned up . You gotta love ebay sometimes!

Being a Land Rover part, the original has a list price of $700 ish so $300 is a bargain

The cans don't trigger the air bags. They're just part of the crumple zone.

Yup, he's right. They look cool, but they're practically made out of exhaust pipe and dent very easily. That and they have a terrible approach angle and tend to move all over the place when you bump them.

Thanks Scouse, I didn't know that.
So how come the Airbag compliant bullbars have cans and the earlier ones dont?
