Wink Converting to two wheel drive

I have two disco's ones, diesel & v8. The V8 is a run around and I am considering disconnecting the front wheel drive to improve fuel economy etc. Has anyone done this and advice please? My diesel has been amazing, upgraded suspension, water cooled turbo and 3" exhaust, has never faultered for over 200,000kms.

Might put extra strain on diffs and axles, among other things, and lead to early breakages.

I had a mate that ran his defender in 2 wheel drive for ages can't remember and I can't remember whether it was front or back think it was front

the reason I posted was because it wrecked his front tyres!!! very quickly
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

The reason LR went to constant 4WD with the RR was to prevent diff breakages in normal use. The Disco is virtually the same running gear as the early RR.

Quite frankly, you won't save any fuel and it will be a waste of money.

    and i agree with ron,
but also you will stuff the transfer case, it wasn't designed to run constantly locked, driving one tailshaft.
the vehicle was designed as a constant 4wd system and works very well as that, leave it alone, and find other ways to improve your fuel economy, like soft throttle.

I have run mine in rear wheel drive for about 3 days while waiting for the front prop shaft to be rebuilt. And quite frankly the ride is crap, handling is terrible, and cornering just feels plain unsafe. As a few have said already, leave it the way it is, its the way it was designed and works perfectly that way.

I doubt you'd ever save enough fuel to cover the cost of the required parts, let alone any labour costs. You'd save far more by buying fuel in the low price cycle.
