    Good deal or not?

    1995 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY TDI Private Cars For Sale in SA - carsales.com.au

    My neighbour needs a vehicle to tow his new boat. Combined weight with the trailer is about 3500kg.

    After a bit of looking around for him, I'm a bit confused/surprised at the towing rates of different vehicles. A lot of vehicles that I quickly sampled on Redbook are only rated at 2500kg for braked towing. This included by brothers 04 Pajero, a 95 4.2L Patrol, and a 95 80 Series Cruiser.

    Interestingly, a 95 Defender is rated for 3500kg, and a 95 Discovery 4000kg!! If this is the case, a Discovery should suit him fine. I think my Defender is a little too industrial for him, and he's after an auto anyway.

    So, is the vehicle in the link above a good price?

    I think landies can tow 3.5ton and 4ton braked.....however I have made some very wrong comments today so you might want to wait for someone to confirm

    I know they can pull a hell of a lot more than most vehicles that's how a number of people have come to the landy world by buying one as a tow vehicle and the realising how bloody good they are off road also
    Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

    Any trailer over 750kg must be braked, and over 2000kg braked on
    both axils.
    D1s do have a 4000kg rating but i think to go that heavy
    the brakes need to be more than just overrun hyd.

    That disco sounds good with rebuilt engine & gearbox and
    low kms.

    As long as the receipts show the work was done by a company familiar with landys it should be ok, it may tow 3500kg but it will be very slow going.

    I should have mentioned, the boat ramp is about 500m from our place, so wouldn;t be too much trouble. Also the trailer has brakes, some air jobby with a small compressor and tank on it - not sure what type it is.
