What to lock first

rear all the way even if you have a LSD, they are of little use when you lift a wheel. I put the locker in the front of my county first as it blew the front diff and had the lockers sitting there waiting to go in and found it made very little difference in most situations, where as my old disco i put a maxi in the rear and that thing drove almost anything!

Your looking at this backward.

First work out what your going to be spending the majority of your time doing?
Are you beach driving, hard rocks, loose shale, or mud holes.
Or may be your looking at steep hills covered in wet clay, sand dunes, rocky mountain tracks.

There are pros and cons for each type to locker in each situation. Don't take my word for it check out the different programs in the D3 Terrain Response and what they do to the amount of wheel slip for each situation.

In sand, mud, and snow a bit of slip can preferable to being fully locked.

A front locker is more effective than a rear locker in all situation EXCEPT steep hill climbs. If the car is not fully loaded the front has the most weight.

LSD's are less likely to crab on side slopes, and put a lot less strain on the drive gear.

If you go air locker or Detrot locker YOU MUST UPGRADE YOUR AXLES or you will snap them.

However, a steep hill with wet clay and deep ruts, twin air lockers will win every time.

rear first, i have done alot of mods to my rc rock crawler, all of the drive shafts i broke were in the back first, the upgrades to steel shafts always twisted more in the back. if you dead head it against a wall it would climb up with the rear locked but not with just the front locked. ( had open or locked diff option with pin) back to the weight being mostly on the rear tires. given that the front had one off the wall and the other hardly touching, and the two on the ground twisted and flattend form pressure. hope this helps, im opting for both i hear what you are saying about the money, i havent got it i had to get a loan its big bucks. :(

Would you still recommend that for a new 130 defender cab chassis?

Was thinking I would go ARB lockers from near new.
