    Recon V8 Motor

Can anyone suggest the best place to obtain a recon 3.9/4 lt V8 engine and a rough idea of cost. Its for a 94/95 S1 Disco.

    Thanks

    4.6 is the go

Apart from having the crazy 5.5 litre race engines Triumph and Rover Spares in SA also have fully reconditioned 4.6 long motors with a hi-po cam fitted for $4950 plus freight.

I'm not sure I would be bothering to recondition my old 3.9 when that is all it costs for a much better motor with far greater power output that gets delivered to your door in one week.

For those dollars you end up with roughly 250 hp and about 310 flb of claimed torque from memory.
Now the old D1 would be interesting to drive with that kind of power, in fact so would the D2! From memory that gives you quite a bit more horsepower and torque then the Jag 4.4 fitted to the D3 which is no slug to drive.

    Cheers,
    Terry

I wonder why they don't seem to advertise or provide details of these on their new website. I presume they fit flanged liners and 9.35:1 pistons and PC216 cam.

They also advertise a 4.9 Stroker kit,,
I wonder if it gets close to that?

    Regarding the recoed 4.6's.

I rang the people at SA last week out of curiosity regarding the 5.5 post put up by Boxer. It was then that the gentleman whose name now escapes me told me of the recoed 4.6's with the all the goodies and yes that did include flanged liners as well as the cam up grade for $4950.

He did sound like the owner of the business from several comments he made if that assists.

He made it clear that they were selling about 1 of these engines a week and had sold over a 100 and many Disco owners were buying them. I consider at that price the engines are a relative bargain and why would you stuff around reconditioning a completely stuffed 3.5, 3.9 or even the later D2a V8 engine when you can buy one of these long engines for that price and get all that extra horsepower and more importently for off road applications torque?

One thing I failed to mention was he told me that for that price you get a bit of gear you bolt on to the fuel injection so the old injection works well with the larger capacity engine. I guess it is some sort of fuel metering device, but I did not recognise nor can I remember the name he mentioned.

Anyway give them a call for yourself and ask the question if anyone thinks I've got it wrong.

    cheers,
    Terry

    Recon 4.6

I finally went with the recon 4.6 from Triumph and Rover Spares and had it fitted at Jordan Rover Tech. Am still running it in and am very pleased with the result so far. It is a lot better than my old 3.9. Total cost about $9.5K.
