Electrical woes '96 Disco V8

Or do Landys just suffer the same problems!? I'v ebeen having a very similar problem with my '89 rangie. Almost exactly as alturbo68 describes in his first post. Numerous lights coming on, tacho going off, battery not charging.

I reckoned on the alternator but the charing problem just went away after tightening the belt. I noticed then some gaps between the securing bolts and the hangers and some dodgy wiring connections. I made good the connections and all the charging problems went away.

Then the indicators started working intermittantly, relay going double time but no lights and tacho dancing away. Horn going very quietly at indicator tempo before starting.

By the sounds of the posts above (the ones I could follow anyway:confused:) the problem may be that the alternator is not the original type or amperage(?). So the solution is a new alternator?

The other "drama queen" on your RRC can be a postive terminal post on the fire wall

Mike, Thanks for the additional link. Looking forward to a good rummage around under the dash panels tonight and hopefully years of fire free, brightly lit motoring!

And of course, other road users knowing what direction I intend to turn!

Hows this one, my mates RR would only turn off if you have your foot on the brake. It just started doing it one day , then after 12 months the problem just went away. weird!!!

Finally got round to test the positive terminal post. It was all good only 0.5V maximum difference. I did notice that when I started it up the battery light was on so checked across the battery and it was just 12.8V, so think its the alternator. Or more specifically the regulator.

So will see if I can find the right regulator, can't quite work out what spec the alternator is, think it's aftermarket cause it doesn't quite fit the brackets.
