Leaking Diesel

We have had diesel leaking probs with our 200tdi d1, it came from the plastic fuel return lines which run back off the injectors, not shore if the 300's have these though, i have run out of fuel afew times now, i hope it doesn't damage the pump or anything:eek:
If you are having trouble finding where the leak is, get someone to turn it on while you look for the leak:)

A number of possibilities.

A common problem is one of the flexible lines doesn't have very much slack and engine movement causes eventual failure of the line or one of the connections. Replace with a new line and make it a little longer so it won't do the same when you are far from anywhere.

Another is fittings on the lift pump.

Another is seals on the injection pump - usually at the spindle for the accelerator lever.

Another, potential problem can occur if you ran out of fuel and decide to prime the system using the manual priming lever on the lift pump. The rubber diaphragm in the lift pump can fail when the manual lever is used (because the aged rubber is flexed further by the hand lever). This can lead to diesel contaminating the engine oil and excessive engine wear.

Normally the fuel injection system in a 300tdi will self prime in a short time.

Turns out once i got the bonnet open it was incredibly obvious!!! one of the fuel return lines has perished, was a simple walk to the shed cut a new one fit it and put more in the glove box ready for when the others decide to go :)

And yes the 300 primmed itself so no dramas there :)

why don't you just change them all if you have the stuff sat at home?

seems silly to wait for them to fail if they are that old......if you change them they are not likely to fail with the years left in the car

:), One step ahead of you. The reason i just have the spare hose in the glove box for now is, its not the correct grade hose. I dont know how it will handle the Diesel fuel. So i have just got it as a back up till Monday when i will get some hose which i am SURE will handle the Diesel then ill replace all of them :)
