I don't think mine sits at 3000 think its more like 2 to 2.5......but now you got me thinking,,,,,maybe I'm wrong.
300 tdi auto
had some gearbox repair problems and now im not sure if its going into top gear on the freeway at 110 should it be sitting on 3000rpm
it has 265/75/16 i can almost swear it used to sit on about 2000rpm

Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
3000 rpm is definitely too high. Sounds like it's not locking in to 1:1 (which mine does at around 76km/hr)
Mine sits at a tad under 2500 rpm at 110 km/hr.
what do you mean by not locking into 1:1
2250rpm @100kph, 2500rpm @ 110kph with 245/70/16's. With 265/75/16's 2250rpm @ 105kph .

As loanrangie said.what do you mean by not locking into 1:1
If you accelerate smoothly through the gears and with your foot on the pedal in a fairly constant position you should notice at around 75-80km/hr a rev drop from somewhere above 2500 to below 2000 (from memory). From there on the converter is locked in high, and you'll notice that the tacho needle doesn't bounce around as much in response to throttle changes as it did before it locked in.
Hi Guys,
Reading this, and feel a little confused?
Other auto cars I've owned, were either 4 or 5 speed (top gear being 1:1) PLUS a torque converter lock up? Is this the case with discos as well?
The reason I ask is I'm having, what I thought to be, trouble with a "sticky" solenoid for the lock up as at 100kph she was reving a touch over 2.5k, slow down to a stop, accelerate again to 100kph and it (sometimes, gotta hold my tongue right) locks in at 75 to 80 kph (2.25K @ 100kph) as described elsewhere in the thread. Figured that the 250 revs or so difference was just the slack being taken up in the converter?
I'm pretty sure I'm in 4th when this is happening, well damn sure as holding it in 3rd for a particular hill around home has it at 3k and 75 to 80 clicks? Selecting "D" again at the top of the hill see's the box pick up 4th and the lockup in one motion, if it grabs the lockup that is.
Sorry for the hijack, but if someone could set me on the straight and narrow it would be appreciated.
Cheers.
yes i will conferm this, mine is the same, when you feather the throttle it dosent want to rev, car just goes faster.
so in other words, it revs high when your crusing and then locks just before you go up a big ass hill then dosent kick down, then revs bloody murder just before the peek of the hill...... thanks murphy.
