    Really getting tired of all the crap!!!!!!

    I have a disco 1 300tdi and has just had a engine rebuild, after spending over $7,000 i dont have anymore funds to put in this thing.. everything was fine until after a trip out with the boys. My power has be lost BUT comes back every now and then. i thought i could have been a hand break issue but not likely now as i have checked it out. WHAT THE HELL CAN IT BE!!!!!!!!! I have changed all filters, clean out the fuel filter in the rear but still the same symptons. Cables (accelaration and kickdown) have all been checked and nothing weird there.....i really dont know anymore and have been thinking to sell the thing and get something else..

    What to do?????

    Simon,

    Try the following;

    Sediment bowl, have you dropped it off to check it isn't full of algae etc?

    Turbo to intercooler hoses for delaminating/ leaking?

    Fuel system air leaks?

    Poor lift pump operation?

    Pressure line from turbo to top of injector pump? This is for boost enrichment.

    The following are not common, but will give similar symptoms;

    Seizing alternator.(I have seen one actually STOP a 300Tdi)

    Sticking governor pin in injector pump, the one that runs up against the inverted cone in the pump top housing(Aneroid/ boost compensator) when this sticks IN, it will fail to enrich under boost, producing low boost and no power. (Only seen this ONCE)

    Fuel tank pick up intermittentlt blocking due to foreign body in tank, OR split so that air can get into the fuel system everynow and then.

    Also, have you jacked it up and felt for binding/ disintegrating wheel bearings?

    Don't worry Simon, we'll find it!

    when i re-fitted the motor into my disco after i had it rebuilt i had a similar issue and it turned out to be the bolts with the holes in that fix the two fuel lines to the injector pump were the wrong way around. They look exactly the same but one bolt has a bigger hole than the other. Matt

    Sediment bowl : Checked and cleaned it out..

    Turbo to intercooler hoses for delaminating/ leaking? : Changed both hoses top and bottom..

    Poor lift pump operation : Have got a new one here but not changed..Sometimes i get like a electrical/mechanical noise coming from around the fuel lift pump/injector pump, when that happens i seem to get my power back.

    Seizing alternator : Have just put a new one in about 2months ago..

    Also, have you jacked it up and felt for binding/ disintegrating wheel bearings? : Will be changing wheel bearings on sunday..

    Its just really frustrating not knowing what it is LoL and i really appreciate the help justin..

    I think it might have been you, JC, that suggested this when i had the issue, but Jokers simptoms do sound alot like mine.

    Is the motor only reving to like 2000 and then wont rev any further Joker?

    The motor revs to about 2000 to 2500 then the turbo kicks in when taking off, after that when it drops below 2000 the acceleration is very poor. Other thing is when i do have my power/boost back my acceleration pedal is nice and soft and i dont have to push it down as far to get anywhere, but when there is no power the pedal is alot harder.

    try swapping those bolts around on the injector pump and see what happens, you wont do any damage if they are correct now, but it will eliminate another possible cause.

    Sounds like anouther tomorow job Simon
    We'll have a good look at it.
    Any thing else we should look at guys?
    I was thinking a fuel line might have been pinched but we might do the bolt thing first.

    Cheers, Kyle.
