Bleeding the fuel system 300TDi

As for the original problem...

Have you checked the top end of the injector pump??

• Pop off the cover by undoing the 4x bolts.
• Check the condition of the rubber diaphragm.
• Mark the position of the diaphragm (so that it can be replaced exactly where it came from).
• Lift the diaphragm & check the condition underneath.
• Push down on the diaphragm retaining nut to make sure there is free movement in the unit.
• Reassemble...

Basically, what you're looking for is any signs of corrosion which will prevent the mechanism from moving freely.

If it isn't moving freely, then this will prevent the pump adding the extra fuel required when the turbo is on boost.

G'day mate,

just checked out the diaphram on the injector pump and all is fine in there, she moves freely and theres no restrictions. I cant get my head around this bloody noise coming from the injector pump, when i hear it happening and jump in the car she bloody flys!!!!!! have read on some post from before and something was mentioned about the idle speed adjust. i usualy have to start the rig a few times for it to change from a slow rough idle to a smooth fast idle and thats when she has all all power.

I really really dont want to say it but if you do a head gasket could that be one of the symtoms????

just another thing, the diaphram seemed to be dry, is that normal??? once i took it off i marked it and placed it back, now it seems to be making that noise i have been hearing but more constant now. 1 last thing that one connection that u have to take off the top, i noticed a hole in the bolt its self. now i'm guessing fuel goes threw that then into the pump or vise versa. could it be that bolt not lining up to the hose coming off that bolt????

Hey bud it was sugested to me today by anouther member that it could be a blokage in the sedimenter.
When you cheacked it did it get washed or just drained?

Just drained it mate there was hardly any **** in there I really think it's the injector pump if so I'm rooted!!!

Pass on the head gasket but... Have you checked the throttle linkages to make sure they're not loose??

Ahhhh.... So now you've checked the diaphragm, you're getting more of that 'hissing' noise????

Let me explain what's going on under that 'lid':

The diaphragm should be clean & dry as the pipe which is leading to the lid is actually taking a feed from the turbocharger. The air pressure, from the turbo, pushes down on the diaphragm which in turn moves various bits to increase or decrease the fueling. So, when the turbo is running on boost, the pressure pushes the diaphragm down and tells the pump to increase the volume of fuel it's delivering.

Now... If that 'hissing' is coming from a split in the feed from the turbo, the pump is never going to be able to increase the fueling.

Inspecting the pump and moving that pipe may well have made the split more noticeable... If that's what it actually is.

Have a look and report back... :D

G'day All,

just an update on my fuel drama, i adjusted the idle speed yesterday and all seems to be going fine, got more power,boost its got me stumped!!!! but i really think that my injector pump is on its last legs so better start savin now for when that bites the dust. will keep you guys in the know..

here is hoping thats it now for a while Simon, I can't believe your run of bad luck with this car....

thats always my worry when something has broken or warn out...what has it done to other things I dont suspect.

Still she be a fantasic car by the time you get it sorted a real keeper hopefully...look at all the troubles Fusion had with spawn....look at why we gave it that name!!:lol2: and I reckon he seems quite happy now

Lol I hope so, I really do. I came so close to selling her and I don't want to do that. I don't know what's wrong with her, I mean the motor should be fine now it's just everything else around it that givin up the ghost. Thing is at the moment I just don't have any trust in her which I know is bad but what can I do lol. Just thanking you all for for help along the way.

just was think if what would happen if i put her in low range and check out the power output there????

prob just a little reluctant to do that hoping nothing else goes wrong.

Just wondering as i have seen a few posts on this if its safe to spray either wd40 or crc in the top of the injector pump where the diaphram sits in the shaft. I have heared that there is a pin on the right hand side that controls the boost presures and sometimes sticks. like i said some ppl have said to spray some wd40 or crc in there to try and loosen it up.
