As you mentioned, intermittent working of the rear or front windows is generally realated to the drying out of the solder joins in the window lift ecu (board).
Unless you misssed some joins, it is normally fixed by resoldering.
I have purchased a second hand window lift ecu from a wreckers for $50? maybe? and that restored my front windows when they went on the last Disco.
Try a wrecker for a second hand unit, they are small so postage would be reasonable, maybe TRS (Triumph Rover Spares) in SA would be worth a call.
Or they pop up on ebay every now and again for $30 or so.
Other likely culprits for failure might be the actual switch itself, but these don't go often, or maybe even the wiring.
Although my money is still on the board/window lift ecu.
