Rear Window Problems and the Window Lift ECU

As you mentioned, intermittent working of the rear or front windows is generally realated to the drying out of the solder joins in the window lift ecu (board).
Unless you misssed some joins, it is normally fixed by resoldering.

I have purchased a second hand window lift ecu from a wreckers for $50? maybe? and that restored my front windows when they went on the last Disco.

Try a wrecker for a second hand unit, they are small so postage would be reasonable, maybe TRS (Triumph Rover Spares) in SA would be worth a call.
Or they pop up on ebay every now and again for $30 or so.

Other likely culprits for failure might be the actual switch itself, but these don't go often, or maybe even the wiring.
Although my money is still on the board/window lift ecu.

You sure you pulled out the window ecu???.... depending on your model/options there are a few ecu's in that location in passenger footwell area.

When I did mine , it was exactly as the one on discoweb, may be you pulled the wrong one. Check and don't waste you $ buying another one yet as it is a real easy fix. Providing it's the right one. And mine had the exact same solder joint locations as per the Discoweb one.
Also in Australian models, it's behind the glove box at the top left corner at the very rear, it's hard to get to. It's retained by a bracket. I pulled the plug off and eased off the front cover from the case and slid the circuit board out.http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/989/windowecu.jpg

If it was the correct PCB and still the problem, You should check the orange switch button in the console, too. The contacts can be dirty and in some cases you have the same symptoms as described in Dweb.

thanks to all , i am preety sure i found the right board as stated it is behind the glove box on the top of the green box also next to something that has to do with abs you need to remove plastic face plate to access board i will have another go latter today . what do i look for regarding dry joints etc thanks again, you are always great with your info.

Hi, the S1 Disco window drive motors stop when they get to the top position through a current limiting device built into the window control board.

Some other Land Rover electric window motors such as the Defenders have the current limit built into the motor itself. (also the case in electric seat motors)

Is it possible that the problem is in the motor itself?

Having said that, these symptoms point to control board issues on most occasions. This is what the board should look like. The one in the pic is one I had out of a 1997 Disco.

If you had the pic from the Discoweb site, then give those exact solder points a little hit with the solder iron and fresh solder. Every one that I have come across with this problem always had the same points causing the prob.

just a short note to tell all that once again you were right i resoldered the window board and hey presto it works like a charm . thanks to all that helped me at least i wont have to keep telling everyone in the back to wait and the window will go down eventually. dont know if this is any help to others my board was called pektron ltd pro330and on back ay2e 1993 different to picture in disco web . cheers.

Hi all, sorry to do this but is anyone willing to email me with some 'basic' instructions. i'm fumbling through disco web at the moment but alot of this is over my head. i have the skills, just not the knowhow...yet.
my '97 disco's rear windows work maybe 1 out of every 10 times i try them. seeming completly random, also my drivers window no longer stops once powered all the way down, it tries to escape through the bottom of the door :S

Hi does anybody no where i can get a window ecu for my 95 disco, back windows work but not front did do some soldering which fixed it for awhile but now the front has stopped thanks Luke.
