Best manual to buy for my 91 Disco V8?

I can't afford mechanics(and don't really trust them enough for a vehicle I want to go far away with), and I have limited knowledge on most things to do with my Disco. So which of these two manuals would be the best if anyone knows.
Land Rover Discovery 1990 - 1998 Owners Workshop Manual - eBay Media, Cars, Trucks, Clothing, Merchandise, Media, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 23-Nov-09 21:22:10 AEDST)

    or
LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 1989 TO 1998 SERVICE & REPAIR MAN - eBay Media, Cars, Trucks, Clothing, Merchandise, Media, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 20-Nov-09 17:04:47 AEDST)

I cannot comment on the first on but I have the Haynes manual and found it simple and easy to use.

I thought they were a bit cheaper than what is being asked but it has been a little time since I checked. Repco sell them.

Or you could buy the CD Manuals by clicking on 'Shop' at the top of the screen.

This way your $$'s help to keep this site running.

The Haynes is a waste of money in comparison to RAVE but I'm not sure if the '91 Disco was covered by RAVE. I think RAVE covers from the Update (1995) model.

Yeah, couldn't find the 91 V8 Disco covered in there unfortunatley
I might grab the Landy one though.

I would have to disagree - I have both and use the Haynes far more than the RAVE for normal maintenance work. The Rave is more complex and I believe was designed for landrover technicians to use - the Haynes on the other hand is designed for dummies (like me) and in my view is better suited for everyday use.

I guess it depends what you want to do.

they haynes is fine for basic work but dont trust the numbers that are in the books, Ive seen rebuild numbers in them for various editions that dont make sense.

If you get a haynes limit it to an aid to fault finding and a guide as to whats supposed to be done. READ the whole chapter first before you start any work as they have an annoyting habit of occasionally mentioning things that you need to know up at the start of a procedure down at the end.

The RAVE is the best thing for working on the landy, but it has problems too as it doesnt cover every version or configuration but relies on the mechanics knowlodge of the marque for instance the MY03 spec TD5s EGR system is not covered in the defender section but it is in the discovery section.

Personally I reccomend you buy the RAVE as a supplement to the best resource available on the planet when it comes to landrover repairs.

The Tech forums including the good oil

    and

The Pinnacles - threads about each Rover Type

The 89-93 Disco is a bit of an orphan when it comes to workshop manuals - the appropriate one is in a grey loose leaf folder ( I have one). The easier way might be to buy the CD for the RRC 89-93, as it has the same info for the important bits- there isn't too much you can't figure out. I tend to think the RAVE (95-03) is a little misleading as there were a fair few modifications for the update.
