I have always thought I would like ones of these too.

I have always thought I would like ones of these too.
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Don't see many of those ladders on D1s, so a second hand one might be hard to come by.
You could try wreckers and modify something else.
The ladder was a genuine accessory, so you could contact your local dealer and see if they (or another dealer) has one in stock.
Sometimes the dealers get these accessories in and then they just sit there until they virtually give them away 10 years later.
Not long ago the dealers had a run out on replacement dashes for around $100, so you could be lucky with a genuine ladder.
fibeen thinking about making one but the time and stuffing round thought i would be able to pick one up cheap enough
Depends what you consider cheap, but Ebay UK has them: TVL4001 REAR ACCESS LADDER - LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 1 / 2 - eBay Other Lights Accessories, Lights Lighting Accessories, Car Tuning Styling, Vehicle Parts Accessories. (end time 10-Dec-09 03:04:24 AEDST)
Around $100 to buy, but you need to email for a postage quote to Aus, I'd say double that including postage so maybe $200 all up as a guess.![]()

Genuine.... yeah, good luck.
Try Land Vehicle Spares at Silverdale in NSW. They got mine very quick. Its the same as the genuine except without the Rover stickers.

I had to get some stuff from British Off road today.
They have them on their web site under speicals $135?
I saw something that was pretty cool the other day actually that would be easier to install then a ladder on the rear door. It was a moulded foot step that you attach to your rear tyre on the door... Attach it with a ratchet strap.
Or, like me, you can save the money and use the top of your spare tyre to stand on to get access to the roof rack. And before anyone asks, I weigh 90k's and I haven't noticed any sagging of the rear door. Not that the ladder would help with that anyway.
