A 94 D1 v8 does not have o2 sensors, so that is why you cannot find the wire.
First/next thing to look at is the temp sensor. If it has died the ECU will have the "choke " on all the time.

Hi all, I have just bought a 94 Disco 3.9, I have had to sort out a few drama's, but would love some help on the location of the O2 wire on a 5spd, it is broken at the sensor, nice black plug's! I have looked for a wire under the car.... nothing stand's out, so Im guessing it's running rich. Has to do something for my fuel economy, I have cleaned the stepper motor, pulled every plug I could find, cleaned them all, repacked with electrical grease, new plug's, leads, dizzy cap, TPS and MAF cleaned... after reading all of the electrical problem's I figured, do it right the first time after all this it run's quite well, except on fuel, I have to plan trips around service stations!...lol

Thank's for the help....I have an O2 sensor in my exhaust, (just 1) after the Y piece?, but the ECU is certainly running it rich, very black plug's and lot's of black smoke if you rev it out, then if you pull up quick it stall's or try's to stall, then recovers, I think this is a combination of fault's, VSS and this fuel issue, the plug's are really sooted up, I have replaced everything else, and what a wealth on knowledge here, thank's Phillip, I'll get a new temp sender and post how I go........
I have had a look at the Thermostat housing, 1 sensor, then another on the intake manifold.... my gauge on the dash is working, apparently.
I wonder if there is years it was and wasn't fitted...
our 98 3.9 disco certainly didn't have one, and we were informed by the garage that 02 sensors was a D2 thing and that the D1's didn't have them here in OZ.
I'm not saying yours doesn't if you seen it you know best, but I guess like a lot of landy stuff there must of been some years that did have them and some that didn't.
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
Hi Dullbird.....I have heard... from Rover, that some D1's were fitted with none, one or two sensor's and some with Cat's, D2's apparently got 3 sensor's and a pair of cat's..?
I had a look at my exhaust manifold, there is a nice flat spot where, I would say a sensor could go, if it was drilled out, I have no cat's and an O2 sensor though, I have had a really good look under the floor for a stray wire to no avail, I will replace this ECU temp sender and see if that improve's the fuel issue.....and hopefully discover that the exhaust is of something else, and I dont need a new O2 sensor..lol
Cheer's for your help guy's
have you checked your MAF....when ours failed our car was running very rich...and used to cut out a lot when in heavy traffic

Hmmm the plot thickens.
If you have one sensor and no wires, my guess is that it was fitted to see what the Fuel air ratio was by a mechanic or owner.
The 14CUX (AFAIK always) uses 2 Titania sensors which are a bit unique as they also have a 12MM nut. I will be willing to bet yours has a 17MM nut and is a "usual" type Bosch Zirconia sensor.
AFAIK NO Disco 1s or RRCs came to OZ with sensors and if they had they would have 2 Titanias. They went to the US etc with sensors.
FYI , I have fitted o2 sensors to my RRC , so i have been there done that. There is a write up in Projects.
Makes me wonder whether someone has been changing chips or ECUs on the car. If so the richness could be anything.

Thank's to all for the tip's, I have looked at the O2 sensor, I think it's retro fitted, had a good look today while attending to the singing gearbox!..... couldn't find any stray wire's under there, so, out of mind out of site!...it's only fuel, speaking of fuel, the fuel pump died today, I relaced it with a fuel miser pump for a VN, it run's a bit more pressure, but seem's to be doing the job, and some what cheaper than the Rover part, the install took all of ten minutes, found that I hadn't located the unit in the tank properly, so gauge was reading wrong, but, bit of fiddling and hey presto, no fuel smell, and a gaue that now appear's accurate...
The MAF has been another area I have looked at today, the 5Am Maf is common to SAAB 900 Turbo's and the rover, much cheaper from Saab for a new one, around $135.00, it's on the way, So with some luck, I have found the stalling issue within the MAF, gave it a spray of MAF cleaner and it has been running really well..... between petrol station's anyway!
So a very gratefull thank you to all......... finger's crossed!
