Niggling faults with my 'new' Disco

    Hi all,

Just bought a '94 update Disco, a couple of things I haven't been able to nut out on my own, hoping someone can help.
    1. The thermo fans are staying on after the ignition is switched off for about 10 minutes. It's pretty hot here at the moment (It's still 37°C at 8pm!) but the gauge doesn't seem go above about 1/3. I've bled the system and the header tank stays at the correct level. Is there a timer for the fans or are they temperature dependant?
    2. My central locking doesn't work. I've checked and it's got the solenoids but they are doing nothing. I don't have any remotes but they should still work with the key, yes? I've read that there's an inertia switch that would prevent them from operating in an accident but I can't find it. Is it the same sensor that cuts the engine in an accident on the firewall?
    3. When I got it the clock didn't work and when I pulled it out it had no globe. I had a spare globe from an old BMW and it fitted perfectly but now the thing glows all the time, ignition off as well. With the ignition on it glows brighter and with lights on it dims (As it's supposed to). Does the clock definitely switch off with ignition or is it just because my new globe is brighter that I can see it with the ignition off?

Also, the tacho reads way too high, but it did have a new alternator put on it before I got it and I think it has the smaller pulley causing the high rpm.

    Many thanks in advance. Cheers.

The same switch cuts the engine & unlocks the doors. The drivers door actuator is the controlling one so that could be the problem. Check for blown fuses first.

Maybe that's why the globe was removed.

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks, Scott.
    I'll check the temp sensor.
I had a thought today about the central locking. Fuses are all OK. The car's got an alarm fitted but it's switched off and I don't have any remotes for it. If the central locking was connected to the alarm, perhaps that's what's stopping it from working. Think I might remove the alarm. The clocks still a mystery. I found out the other day that the rear demister was on permanently so maybe the problems are linked somehow.
Thanks for the help so far. Cheers.
