hey all, I'm back - some questions after a trip to sydney

hey all after getting my disco right i went off to sydney

i got a crap 653ks from 1 tank of feul and 1 suba tank of gas

i went real 4x4 in sydney wih old boyspumped up 62 seires, brothers jacked off patrol, and my little brothers stock standard MQ patrol

tell ya had to build some freeways for the disco to climb anythink the stock patrol peeed all over the disco, i was runing cooper muds 265 i have to cut my guards because i bent and tore the crap out of the quorters but had a lot of funn doing it hehehe

    now to the problem

while 4x4 my disco on the dash showed normal temp but the engine bay was a different story
she boiled everything from the brake fulid, clutchfluid, power steering,i mean the windo washer bottle was steaming off the windscreeen it was so hot
i found also on petrol it fluttered because the feul evaporated befor it even hit the injectors,

i also had this problem driving home ,she got so hot i had to stop
i was sujested to me by a tdi diso owner my radiator is junk up????
could this beee the problem of the over heating?

What's your suspension set up like? It sounds like you're not flexing enough & getting cross axled too eeasily.

Do you realise what the boiling point of brake fluid is?
If that boiled, your engine bay would be a melted blob .

Get some accurate temp gear & see what is actually happening. If you've done a bit of mud plugging in the past, then the radiator can certainly become clogged. They also clog on the inside with casting sand.

I doubt the fluttering on petrol would be due to vapourisation being an injected car. Did you try disconnecting the pressure regulator to see if it made a difference?

Oh, one more thing: where was our invitation to go 4x4ing?

Time to pull out the radiator and get it cleaned and rodded ......

Have a look for how many insects are jammed and blocking the air flow on the radiator from your "country trips"

and post up a photo of the side view of your ride, so we can see your wheels & suspension

I have a stock RR with slightly bigger rubber & my brother's diesel 60 series with lift +33's can't keep up on the rocks . Sort the suspension & she'll go just about anywhere .

Make sure you have the centre diff locked when you go off road - this catches a lot of newbies. If it is not locked, you really are only going to get drive to rear axle off road.

Also the centre diff gets stuffed if you are spinning tyres when it is not locked.

Overheating problems are usually due to:
    radiator
    viscous fan coupling
pusher thermo fans for air con. condensor

No, you will only get drive to the wheel with the least traction.

Mate landy's have centre diff lock. You will need to engage by pushing 4wd stick hard left and into low range as well (make sure you do this in neutral) you can engage centre diff lock in high range as well by just pushing stick to the left. If you can't out perform a patrol you may need some lessons??/ LOL
