    Door that won't quite unlock...

George's passenger side door lifts, but not quite far enough when the remote is pressed. Naturally, this annoys The Navigator as it takes a key from the outside or manually lifting the knob a bit more from the inside to get it open so she can enter.
I assume the spring in the locking mechanism is weak, so I've actually bought a new spring, but now I can't figure out how to replace it.
I guess it would be directly under the knob? How do you get to the spring? It all looks a bit awkward to me...
    Any tricks to doing this?

I had the problem once but it turned out to be the actuator, the case that holds the little 12V motor and the 'railway track' mechanism had spilt. So the gear on the railway track would slip thus not having the total travel distance to lift the plunger. But you would hear a distinctive click as it slips if that was the problem.

That's interesting. I'll have a look at that on Saturday when I try to pull it apart. Thanks.

    Door Lock Spring Replacement

I'm pretty sure it'll be the door spring. I just changed all 5 of mine (today) because at least one of my doors had the exact same problem. To get to the lock mechanism on the front door, you need to remove the door skin, remove the door lock solenoid and disconnect linkage, remove window winder actuator (tape the window in before doing), slide out the entire window and slide rails (yes, hard to believe, but it all has to come out), then disconnect the linkages from the lock and remove the lock (at last!).

Once the lock is out it takes about 3 minutes to install the new door lock spring. If the old spring is there, its pretty easy to locate between one of the levers and the lock body. I have some pictures, so I'll try to post them later to show where the spring goes.

Then you have to put the whole lot back together again.

when i replaced mine i couldnt undo one of the screws that holds the window frame in so i undid it on one side and moved it just enough to be able move the locking mech around inside so i could get it out

I agree I pulled the door apart then quickly decided to pay someone else to do it for me. Don't regret it. Man's gotta know his limitations as Clint Eastwood famously remarked.

Yep, its complicated, unfortunately. The rear door is similar, but obviously no glass or winder to remove - so lots quicker. I did that one in about an hour once I got the hang of it.

The circular door lock springs are 'handed' so the ones that fit the right and rear doors (from memory) are all the same, but the one for the left side doors is different.

Where did you source your spring from? I had to get mine off ebay because Land Rover claim they don't stock them as individual parts.

Well done! It must have been a tight squeeze to get the lock out with the window slide rail in the way.

I did mine last year. Leave the window up and remove the window frame, (2 bolts at the bottom, 1 at the rear, 1 torx at the front and 1 behind the mirror, from memory). Undo the linkages and screws and remove the door lock assy. Pretty straight forward really. Got the instructions off this site I think. Springs are definitely handed (drivers and rear door are the same). Got my springs off ebay from UK supplier. Also helps to get some spare clips to hold the door cards in as you will usually break a few of these as well.
